Professional colleges in Karnataka State, affiliated to the state run Universities, admit students to the Government seats in Medical, Dental and Engineering Educational institutions through Common Entrance Test Karnataka CET every year. A parallel entrance test is held by the Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association under the name of Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). This is used to fill management quota seats of certain engineering/medical/dental colleges in Karnataka. For the year 2007, non-Karnataka students (students not eligible to be considered in the Karnataka quota) were not allowed to appear for CET, instead they could appear for the COMEDK examination.
Karnataka Common Entrance TestThe Karnataka Common Entrance Test is
conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility / merit, for admission
of Karnataka candidates to the First year of full time courses in Medical,
Dental, Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, Naturopathy & Yoga, Engineering,
Technology and Architecture courses (based on NATA score),in
institutions within the State of Karnataka.
ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY FOR OPEN CATEGORY:
- For Engineering and Technology courses,

The applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th Std. or equivalent
exam with PHYSICS & MATHEMATICS along with CHEMISTRY / BIO-TECHNOLOGY /
COMPUTER SCIENCE / ELECTRONICS / BIOLOGY as optional subjects and ENGLISH

Minimum 45% aggregate marks in the optional subjects, irrespective of marks
obtained in the Common Entrance Test.
- For Architecture course

The applicant should have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th Std. or equivalent
exam with MATHEMATICS as a compulsory optional subject

Minimum 50% marks in aggregate in all the subjects in the qualifying
examination

A score of minimum of 40% in NATA (National Aptitude Test in
Architecture).
MERIT FOR ADMISSION:

Engineering / Technology courses-marks of P,C,M of both
qualifying examination and the Common Entrance Test are taken in equal
proportions.

Architecture course -marks obtained in both qualifying examination and
NATA are taken in equal proportions.

The Common Entrance Test is held on ONE day in three different sessions.
It is an objective type test with no negative marks.
